FTP Exports

I am FTPing exports in binary mode as a part of my backup/recovery plan. What happens when the network connection is lost between FTP client and server while a file is being transferred? Will an incomplete file appear on the FTP server or would the FTP server sense the disconnect and remove the partially transferred file?

Thanks
Erik
