In particular, with a normal connection you come in on the listener port (often 1521 or 1526) but the listener then selects a random port for communication from the server back to the client.
So, I believe you either have to open a whole range of ports or go with one of the parameters / setups in the Metalink notes so connections all use a single port for communication from server back to the client.
I'd be interested to hear how you get on with this.

Sorry for the OT post, but I cannot find this elsewhere. We need to get connectivity from outside our firewall into an Oracle database using ODBC.
Our network guy thinks there should be a port designation or something to
allow these odbc connects through.
I'm clueless.
Any ideas where we can look to find out how to configure this?
