Paul, I missed your original thread on this problem, but I suggest you call support. The problem you are seeing may be related to bug# 2009263.

I am making some assumptions that you are running on HP 64bit and you are running on either 8.1.6 or 8.1.7. There are some little things you might need to know. In 8.1.7 lm_lock and lm_ress parameters can't be set using the syntax you have used below and the _lm_direct_sends parameter should be set to "all" which is the default or just removed. The bug 1189628 only appears to cause problems with tru64 or HP 64bit OPS and there is a patch for the problem. Setting _lm_direct_sends forces Oracle to use only 1 message channel and this can become performance issue.
