Yeah, but things do change over time, and that book is a few years old now.

There's good reason at times to use RI with a data mart, such as you need it if you expect star joins to work.

Oracle has made some changes that reduce the impact of having the RI in place.

I seem to remember Ralph Kimball writing in one of his DW books that the RI and constraints should be enforced in the app layer as well. However I might be wrong (once this year isn't too bad, eh?) ;-P
