I think what you want to do is

if [ -d $FILENAME ] then
  echo "the file exists"
else
  echo "file not found"
fi

$FILENAME is a variable holding the name of the file you are looking for. You can assign a value to it by doing:

FILENAME='/tmp/myfile.txt'

before the if statement.

Hi all,

Can someone recommend good unix mailing list

by the way how to check the existence of a file ?

My logic :

        if (findThisFile(/tmp/myfile.txt) == 0)
                echo "the file is exists"
        else
                echo "file not found"
        endif

what is the unix function for findThisFile()

Thank you,
