Hi Rao,

I tried the steps u mentioned. I get the following errors :

 SVRMGR> recover database until cancel;
ORA-00279: change 3412601 generated at 11/30/2001 09:43:43 needed for thread 1
ORA-00289: suggestion :
/usr/local/oracle/admin/sid1/archive/0000000060_0001.arc ORA-00280: change 3412601 for thread 1 is in sequence #60 Specify log: {<RET>=suggested | filename | AUTO | CANCEL} cancel
ORA-01547: warning: RECOVER succeeded but OPEN RESETLOGS would get error below
ORA-01194: file 1 needs more recovery to be consistent ORA-01110: data file 1: '/disk01/oradata/sid1/data/system01sid1.dbf'

SVRMGR> alter database open resetlogs;
alter database open resetlogs
*
ORA-01194: file 1 needs more recovery to be consistent ORA-01110: data file 1: '/disk01/oradata/sid1/data/system01sid1.dbf'

As I said, there is a block corruption on the physical disk as well. It doesn't
show up with the alert log but it shows when we used the ufsdump utility. The disk will have to be swapped and the filesystem recreated anyway, but I was wondering
if there was anything I could do to open the database to take a full db export since
it would be a lot easier for me to import the data after the database is recreated.

The cold backup is no good since the /var/adm/messages file show that the block corruption
occurred on 26/11/01 and the tapes r kept only for 7 days. However, I didnt detect the bad
blocks cos the database was functioning normally until today.

Any other ideas ??

Thanks,

Samir Sarkar

Samir,

>From your mail, I assume the following :
1. You shutdown the database either through immediate or normal. 2. Now you are trying to open the database. At this point, you are getting this error.

If the above is true, then, try the following.

  1. Close the instance by issuing the command at svrmgrl --- Shutdown immeidate (even though your database is not open, your instance would have been created which you need to shut it down).
  2. After successful close, come to the O.S. prompt, and then, delete all the redo logs. <--- Imp. step.
  3. Now, issue the following sequence of commands.
  4. startup mount;
  5. alter database recover until cancel;
  6. Alter database open resetlogs;

The above last command would open the database and also would create the redo logs.

Hi folks,

On trying to open one of our development databases today morning, I get the following
error :

 SQL> alter database open;
alter database open
*
ERROR at line 1:
ORA-00333: redo log read error block 129347 count 1719

The database is 8.1.7 on Solaris and is running in NOARCHIVELOG mode.

Is this a case of redolog corruption ?? In that case, how do I recover the database even if I restore
the previous backup since there r no archive logs (NOARCHIVELOG mode) ??

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Samir
