ping fbsrv to make sure the host can be found
it should be 'export DISPLAY', not 'export $DISPLAY'
make sure that an X server is running on fbsrv

how to test this varies from system to system. If you log on to the box in a graphical environment, then X is running.

We are installing Oracle 8i under AIX 4.3.3 but we encounter DISPLAY variable error.
It read something like 'Can't connect to fbsrv server as the value of DISPLAY variable. We followed the Oracle manual by defining DISPLAY=fbsrv:0.0 and enter the command export $DISPLAY. We also tried xhost +fbsrv command, but still we encountered the same error.
