are my rough instructions for how to duplicate a database (by copying files) and then how to alter the database name (typically referred to as "cloning" a database).

      location
      4. Edit 
      your new init.ora file and change DB_NAME, DB_BLOCK_SIZE must be the same, 
      
        
        change path for controlfiles, user_dump_dest, background_dump_dest, 
      core_dump_dest
      5. 
      Edit  your new controlfile (which you get in step 0) and change it 
      in:

      CONTROLFILE REUSE SET DATABASE 'NEWSID' RESETLOGS

      6. Recreate
