JDBC connections and SQL netTraffic

Can someone provide some education.

The application uses JDBC thin driver to make a connection to the database, with WEBlogic the connection pooling (similar to MTS) is also implemented.

Why would one see a large number of SQL*NET traffic? Any ideas?
