Don't forget Ingres (CA). It still rocks, even though it doesn't have the client base the others do. It runs on all the big boxes though...

I believe that IBM will slowly merge the two so that sooner or later Informix ceases to exist and DB2 becomes the sole product. I'm sure there will be a very sweet migration path from a to b. Then the world of four will be three: DB2, Oracle, and Sql*Server.

Is there even such a thing as Informix any more?

According to this press release, IBM intend to merge Informix into DB2.

Hi,

Sorry to start one of "these" threads but can anyone shed some light on some of the differences between Oracle (8i) and Informix? Trying to find this info out via the web has been VERY time consuming. Are there any compelling reasons for using Informix over Oracle, or visa versa?

Thanks.
