Dave,
In our organization we have the DBA's/UNIX SA's under IS Operations. We are primarily responsible for production support, but are also assigned to project teams for development. As for reporting we report to the Dir. of IS Ops who is at same level as Dir of App. Dev. Both of them report to the VP. What that ammounts to is that we don't answer to the developers. We set things up and tell them (with tact) how it's going to be. Makes for more stable environments.

BTW, I'm also working today. From home though. The smell of chocolate brownies in the oven beats stale office air any day. Talk your boss into VPN and some remote control software (VNC or some such) for weekend support. That way the only thing you have to be in the office for on weekends is when you actually need to get your hands on a machine.
