Stefan, I have OPS and RAC running on my notebook. I have setup 9i RAC on SUSE 7.2 but not 8i OPS. I have setup 8i OPS on Redhat EE 6.2 with no problems. Oracle also doesn't support OPS or RAC on a single machine at this time. I have also done this for NT and Solaris. You do not need raw devices if you setup this environment on a single node but if you use DBCA to create the database it will force you to use raw. Raw devices are only needed for truly shared devices between nodes (except OpenVMS and TRU64 5.1-HP TRU64?). You will also need to install a Cluster manager for this work. The CM is supplied with Oracle on linux.
