I have 11 as well that are 24x7 and I know of 3 more big ones coming in. I did have junior DBA but I just had to give him back to the Unix team because of issues at this Fujitsu plant and cutbacks. Can make things pretty hopping at times. Not much production going on here right now though so I am doing mostly development support. Thing is, it will take another year after they ramp up again before I get another DBA.

I've got 11 databases (and just found out I'll probably have a new one, a semi, sort of, kind of data warehouse -- I need those books!)

and there is me, my junior DBA who is not so junior anymore, and one consultant.

And my CTO thinks that the DBAs are really just extra programming resources.

So half the time we are doing non-DBA work.

Oh yeah, and we don't have any of those high-falutin' database monitoring tools either :)
