Gotta love the Internet! : ) I have no issues with your answer, I agree. Actually, I can't hear that Oracle vs. DB2 vs. MS SQL Server stuff anymore. I have close to zero experience with MS SQL. The best things about Oracle and DB2 are, as far as I'm concerned, that both of them, taken together pretty much dominate the database market when it comes to bigger installations (bank, insurance, telco ...). That means to me, as long as I concentrate on those two, I shouldn't be too concerned about finding a place to work. Additionally, with bigger the installation, chances are that the systems run on some UNIX, which I prefer anyway. Not because I have any problems with MS, but you can just take your whole bunch of selfmade tools (scripts and the like) and run them on other UNIX platforms without changing too much (except for the vendor typical differences when it comes to memory usage monitoring and so on). And, additionally, MS changes NT/2000 or whatever the name will be in a year too often (just look at COM, COM+, .NET and so on). I just prefer reliable platforms. Safes a lot of trouble. ---------------------------- | Regards, | | Stefan Jahnke | | BOV AG | | @:D2 Vodafone, Abt.: FBOM | | Tel.: 0211/533-4893 | ---------------------------- "Boivin, Patrice J" schrieb: > > I don't know if the Oracle Challenge still applies... > > Haven't heard of anyone who managed to win that $1,000,000 bet with Oracle. > > At one point MS was telling Larry Ellison to shut up, they were threatening > a law suit. > > : O > > Patrice Boivin > Systems Analyst (Oracle Certified DBA) > > Systems Admin & Operations | Admin. et Exploit. des systèmes > Technology Services | Services technologiques > Informatics Branch | Direction de l'informatique > Maritimes Region, DFO | Région des Maritimes, MPO > > E-Mail: boivinp@mar.dfo-mpo.gc.ca > > -----Original Message----- > From: Denham Eva [SMTP:EvaD@TFMC.co.za] > Sent: Tuesday, September 04, 2001 6:31 AM > To: Multiple recipients of list ORACLE-L > Subject: Comparison Statistics between Oracle and MS SQL > > Hi Folks, > > Need some backing up here! > I have a MSSQL dba at my place of employment who enjoys emailing me > with > either Websites or reports that compare MSSQL and ORACLE, with MSSQL > in a > favouable light and Oracle usually in a very negative light. > Anyone have anything similar, but from an Oracle point of view? > Would love to shovel some down his throat. > It would be funny if he did not insist on sending them to the Boss > too. > > Regards, > Denham > > -- > Please see the official ORACLE-L FAQ: http://www.orafaq.com > -- > Author: Denham Eva > INET: EvaD@TFMC.co.za > > Fat City Network Services -- (858) 538-5051 FAX: (858) 538-5051 > San Diego, California -- Public Internet access / Mailing > Lists > -------------------------------------------------------------------- > To REMOVE yourself from this mailing list, send an E-Mail message > to: ListGuru@fatcity.com (note EXACT spelling of 'ListGuru') and in > the message BODY, include a line containing: UNSUB ORACLE-L > (or the name of mailing list you want to be removed from).
