A good skipper/helm who knows his boat (and his crew) *and* can understand the wind can do wonders. Looks like they had a 360 wind shift and that would have resulted in some 'dead wind' at points of time. Frustrating to say the least. In sailing, sometimes it is not the number of correct decisions which count but the number of wrong ones and the wrong time.

Each of the 22 have an assigned position/responsibility and train hard and long for it. When they are actually not doing anything, they help in balancing the boat - especially on a broad reach (wind from the side) which makes it look like it's going to keel over...

Fyi, Larry and his crew nearly lost their lives in a big race (near Australia?) a few years ago. Larry would have learnt a lot of things from that race.
