session_cached_cursors and bugs in Oracle 81714

Hi,

We are getting ready to try our upgrade to Oracle 81714 (on NT4 from Oracle 81511) again.

On doing some further research, one of the other DBAs has uncovered some potential issues with session_cached_cursors.

In particular bug 868553 (not public but mentioned at http://metalink.oracle.com/metalink/plsql/ml2_documents.showDocument?p_datab ase_id=FOR&p_id=181740.999), bug 931820 and a number of other bugs that you find when searching Metalink bug database for session_cached_cursors.

The parameter sounds good from a performance point of view (and we chose the value using scripts from Ixora) so my questions:

Are others using session_cached_cursors on 8171? Have you run into the above bugs or other problems with this parameter?

At this stage our development team want us to leave this parameter at 0 (our setting in the 815 instance) and perhaps change it at a later date.

All feedback will be appreciated.

Thanks,
Bruce Reardon
