Paul,

The W2K idea from Mark sounds good.

Another alternative I have read about which should work on either NT or W2K is to make the OMS dependent on the other Oracle services.

>From a Metalink posting:

"
reboot

I worked around this problem by using a feature in WINNT.

  1. Start REGEDT32
  2. Goto Hkey_Local_Machine\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\OracleManagementServer
  3. Edit/Add Value Value Name : DependOnService Data Type : Reg_Multi_Sz String : OracleService OracleTNSListener OracleAgent

Thus for the ManagementServer to start the above services have to be up. And it works. The reason I have three services listed is to make sure there is enough time to start the instance on which the ManagementServer depends. "
If you try this make sure to put the correct service names in the string value.

I haven't tried this but it should work.

Another alternative (but more kludgy) would be to set the OMS server to auto-login and have a batchfile in the startup folder that waits (say) 2 minutes and then does a net start on the OMS service.

Please let us know if one of these ideas works for you.

Regards,
Bruce

Sorry I'm not much help, but I remember reading about a parameter in one of the OEM docs that governs retries, time delays.

        Paul

The only workaround I found for this was to upgrade to Win2K. Then
using the
service recovery option - so that when the service fails, it just
restarts
        it.

You get a few recovery options with Win2K for services:

        Restart the service
        Run a file
        Restart the computer
        Take no action

        Which you can specify for:

        Fist Failure
        Second Failure
        Subsequent Failures

I set each failure to restart the service.. And it works fine..

Sorry I can't help with NT though.. Upgrade it's a LOT better..:)

        Regards
        Mark

        Hi folks,

firstly, many thanks for the advice about the "resources.ora not
found"
message. I've followed the advice to simply create the folder given
in the
message, and to move a copy of the resources.ora file, which exists
elsewhere, to the folder. I did this, and OMS starts cleanly now. So
thanks
        once again!

And for my next problem... OK, so I've set the Management Server
service to
start automatically (this is running on an NT server, just to
recap).
Likewise, the repository database starts automatically when the
system is
rebooted. Unfortunately, the system appears to try and start the
Management
Server service before the database Start service has completed, so
the
Management Server fails to start. Does anyone have any idea how to
tell the
Management Server service not to start until the database service
has
started up? Or has anyone encountered this and figured out a cunning
        workround?

        Thanks again for the help!

        Paul
