Um, I like this idea with one addition...

you need a generalist to RUN that team of specialists.. someone who has the ability to at least understand at a high level what the specialists do/say and to integrate them all together so that one's work doesn't step on the others.

In other words, I consider myself the "primary care physician" for my databases.
