2 RMAN questions

hi listers ...
1/ i had to delete archived logs before i could back them up thru rman ...my ? is how do i notify rman that these logs no longer exist ... do i crosscheck (mark as expired) all previous logs and then issue a complete resynch ... or do i just resynch ... or ?

2/ i am changing the archived logs destination ... is it sufficient to shutdown and restart the database, and then take a backup thru rman ... or do i need to do something else ...

i am having trouble finding documentation that addresses these issues specifically ... so tia for help and/or place to research ...
