What does this data look like?
Is it atomic? What does the numeric value represent?

Same questions as for router statistics

Do you want to be able to easily search based partial IP?

Will your SQL queries always contain the first octet of the IP address in the WHERE clause?

e.g.

for addresses 208.16.92.134 194.16.44.16 and 132.16.12.154   would there ever be a search done on the second octet (16 )?

In other words, should the IP be stored in a single column, or in four columns?

Is IPV6 compatibility important?

These questions must be asked to get an understanding of how you are trying to use the data.
