If the IRIX files can be used on AIX, then you could just run the cat7304 sql to bring the db to 7.3.4 level and them perform the migration to 8i. I don't think migration to 8i (via Migration utility) is possible without doing the prep work with the db running under 7.x version. Other than using exp/imp, that is.
