I annoyed my managers until they realized that there was really no one else to do it and then they gave in. I was really lucky in that I got to work on an excellent project with some very experienced DBAs. Stayed there for a while and picked up tones of experience.

i walked into work one day and found this pile of books on my desk. i said "what's this?" and they said "you're the new DBA and it's broke so fix it now!" and i was a contractor at the time.;-) i've been running scared ever since.;-)
