Hi:

I have a oracle db (oracle 8.0.5 on Sun Unix) whose alert_<sid>.log size is too large. I want to delete it.

Can I just simply do "rm alert_<sid>.log" without shuting down the db, assuming there is no "writting" going on to the file at that moment? I usually do shutdown, delete alert log file, and then startup db again. But this is a 24*7 db and can not be shutdown.

TIA.
