User define queries in SELECT statements

We have run into a big performance issue with our migration from 7.3.4 to 8.1.6.

A single query that SELECTs from a large table, also contains user-defined functions that
appear in the column-list of the SELECT.

This query is running many times longer than under the old version.

Anybody see this before?

(Solaris 2.6)
