Optimizer / Analyze Statistics w.r.t. Partitions

Oracle 817 on DEC 5.1 (TruUnix 64)

For Partitioned Tables , is it Advisable to Analyze Compute the Respective Tables ?

Would there be Any Loss if the respective Tables are NOT Analyzed ?

Any Best Practices , Docs , Links etc on the way of the Optmizer in such Cases ?
