If you check the alert log, it should show you that recovery was needed and performed.

Could you explain this..

SVRMGR> connect sys as sysoper;
Password:
Connected.
SVRMGR> shutdown abort
ORACLE instance shut down.
SVRMGR> startup open;
ORACLE instance started.
Database mounted.
Database opened.
SVRMGR> I thought recovery is needed, But its opened????? Thanks
