We had major problems on 816. eg. a sql ststement that did the following: create table, insert, select from 100000 rows, ran fine, but at stages was paused by up to 10 seconds.
We could find no problems at all on hardware or software or config settings on the oracle db.

We upgraded to 817 as a last resort, and it worked 100%. No hold ups/ pauses.

8.1.7 is the terminal release for Oracle 8i. According to our Oracle rep, a terminal
release, by definition, will receive 6 more months of support. That alone seems
a sufficient reason to upgrade to 8.1.7. But, are there any other
(compelling) reasons

why we should upgrade, rather then wait for 9i?

Thanks,
Jeff T
