RE: Opinions on Performance Tuning SoftwareLOL yeah we are huh.. We also are an Oracle Reseller, though I haven't tried yet.. Just trying to work the licensing and their price lists out gives me migrane that could kill a cat at ten paces!
So I need to ask the question, why not use all of them? They are all good
tools in their own respects..

Well yeah it has to be one of the two - OEM or Savant Diagnostics.
We're an Oracle as well as Precise/Savant (www.savant.com) distributor : )

Does it have to be one of the two? :) Take a look at the NORAD range of tools from Bradmark (Cool Tools is a distributor in the UK). The management tool that we have, DBControl, is easy to use, set up and maintain. Intuitive and all the other sales buzz words you can think of. They have just released a new version which is 8i compatible, and deals with LMTs, IOTs, Bitmapped indexes etc. They have added in partition management aswell.. Trend analysis, reorgs, blah blah blah...
Having used DBControl against OEM, I personally feel that DBControl wins hands down, as do most people (85-90%). I can't speak about Savant Diagnostics though as I haven't had a chance to play with that one as yet. Anyone got a web address, and can you download from the web?
If you are also looking at performance monitoring tools, we have another module called Norad Surveillance. Again, just been updated, now works on SQLServer as well as Oracle and Sybase. Also now 8i compatible (and runs on LINUX). Read more at Bradmark's site if you wish www.bradmark.com

I have to agree with Mark with regards to hey why not use a tool that's going to save you time?
I also agree with his suggestion of Precise SQL to be used as an SQL statement tuning tool.
How about a DB Management tool? e.g. Oracle Enterprise Manager/Performance Pack or Savant
Diagnostics? Which do you think is the better of the two? Anyone?
