Let's see if I can paraphrase this correctly. First I'm assuming you are talking about hot backups. Putting a tablespace in backup mode means that any writes to that tablespace will incur writes to the online redo log of the changed data BLOCK. However consistency is maintained by keeping the SCN static for the datafiles. THerefore if you have to recover, the datafile will have a lesser SCN and recovery up to the latest SCN will be seen as necessary. Which logs to keep? Keep them all unless you don't want to keep your database. List: Correct me if I am stating this wrong... Rahul,

This is a lesson I learned the hard way by being = blasted by the list.  Let's see if I can paraphrase this = correctly.

First I'm assuming you are talking about hot = backups.  Putting a tablespace in backup mode means that any = writes to that tablespace will incur writes to the online redo log of = the changed data BLOCK.  However consistency is maintained by = keeping the SCN static for the datafiles.  THerefore if you have = to recover, the datafile will have a lesser SCN and recovery up to the = latest SCN will be seen as necessary.

Which logs to keep?  Keep them all unless you = don't want to keep your database.

List:  Correct me if I am stating this = wrong...  I had kept the email that had described it so clearly, = but lovely LookOut has 'archived' (read: deleted) it.
