Rahul,

This gets more into your backup and recovery planning, namely how long do you keep backup files for? During a hot backup, whether a tablespace or the entire DB, the redo information is constantly being written to the archive logs.  If your only doing one tablespace, any of the logs created between the "alter tablespace <name> start backup" and "alter tablespace <name> end backup" may be needed during a recovery. Which ones will depend on which files you need to restore, when the backup started, and when your rolling forward to. The discussion can get rather DEEP fast & I really don't want to tie up too much of the lists bandwidth. Therefore, I keep ALL archive log files for 30 days or until the last database backup tape with a date earlier than the date of the archive log tape has been recycled/trashed, whichever is LONGER. If you have more questions, can we take then off-line?
