Thanks to all those who replied.

I found the problem and I would be happy and thankful if someone could = give me an explanation.

In addition to renaming file, I commented out the "mts_dispatchers" = parameter. This was the reason why it gave that error.=20

I am sorry to have U troubled.

Could someone give me an explanation as to why does it throw this error = message. Should it not establish a dedicated server connection. I am using NT with 816.

Sanjay

If this is 8i and on NT, there is a directory under Oracle home called = database, there is an init file in there that points to the init.ora = file in the pfile folder. If you don't change the name there it won't = start.

Have you tried to start up using the pfile option?

    SQL>startup pfile=3DPATH/init.ora=20

Are there any errors in the alert log, or any errors accompanying = this error? There should be more information in the error stack..=20

    HTH     Mark

      parameters

      Kindly help.

      Sanjay
