Johnson,

    You bet, something that came out/in with SQL*Plus ver 8.0 and beyond. You HAVE to specify <owner>.<table_name>@<db_link> no matter if there is a public synonym on the remote or not. One other note, a public synonym on the local node that does not follow the same rules behaves funny too.
