To add a detail to Jared's reply, beware of the Oracle 7 version because you need at least a 7.3 client to 'talk' to an Oracle 8 database. I know a site with a VMS application server running Forms 3 (on VMS 6 ...) and plugging into an Oracle 8.0.5 database on a Unix server running True64. Runs quite well, and setting the right VMS logical (the VMS equivalent of TWO_TASK) made it transparent to users. Don't know about talking to 8i though.
