Correction to my message posted a few minutes ago.

The last value of stat(2) is the number of blocks of 512 byte size, not the fragment size, which should always be 512 byte in size.

I did not check I/O buffer size on FreeBSD. I did it on OpenBSD (as well as Solaris, Linux, Tru64 and OSF/1).
