I am not so sure that you can't install Oracle without being on a = network, I
remember installing 8.0.4 and 7.3 on my laptop without being connected = to
anything. It stumped me for a few days, that was last year. (I only = have 1
=BD years of experience with Oracle).

My memory is not that great, though.

Maybe you could install Oracle stand alone in the past, but you can no longer do that with 8i - Imagine a standalone "Internet Database"! = Very
funny.

Pls. Give the Microsoft Loopback Adapter a try:

Network | Properties | Adapters | Add=20

Pick Microsoft and select MS Loopback Adapter.

Good luck.

That would work, but remember you can't install the db without some
sort of
an adapter. That works for a stand alone machine, but since this
one is
capable of being on the network I assumed it had some sort of an
adapter
installed. Maybe the protocol stack is hosed?

Have you thought of installing the MS Loopback Adapter, to simulate
being on
	a network?

	That might fool SQL*Net.

I don't know if I understand the problem correctly though.
