One more thing i forgot if i u can really can get your online redologs = when the database crashed across to the standby database then u do not = have to activate the standby at all and u can open that database without =  activating it by just creating the controlfile with norestogs I hope u = knew this

Well uptil now we have been working here from 7.3.4.3 to 8.1.7 we = havent faced in probs when we activated the standby without the online = redologfiles

If you have worked on standby database and activated the standby =

If my primary didn't have time to archive the last online redo prior = to crashing, then YES I would need the archive logs. You see I have this = silly habit of trying to recover as much data as possible. :)

Buddy please check it out u do not need the logfiles when the = database is in mount mode and getting recovered once u activate the = database the logfiles will be recreated if the logfiles are not there.=20

Well u will have to experiment a little more on the standby = databases.

Buddy, I can't speak for 8.1.6 or later, but in early 8i releases = (8.1.4, 8.1.5) if you tried to use RESETLOGS during standby activation = and there wasn't SOME type of file representing the online redos in as = placeholders, the database would crash with an ORA-600. Silly me, I = guess it just made sense to copy a few extra MB and play it safe then = have to spend time putzing around while my users were waiting for the = database to resurface. But, you're right, I guess I need to experiment a = little more, because clearly I don't know what I'm talking about. :)
