Super-associative ----> my word for a table that has no relationship enforced via the rdms, but instead, contains a field that specified tot he application developer which table to associate this row of data with. The association is enforced within business rules..... totally against the prupose of having a database management system altogether!

ID TABLE Arc_ID Arc_Type
1 Site 34432 Employee
2 Incident 34466 Employee
3 Property 23455 PropertyID

For instance , you want to find an employee associated with the site, go to this table where table = Site and Arc_type = Employee.....

I think of this table like a folding ruler, creating a 3 domensional associative table....but I do not agree with this design!

Actually this is a VERY simple example. Our TABLE usualy represent an OBJECT LEVEL....... but can't go into that without going nuts! Plus there are MANY tables and MANY types of associations......

Hannah

PS. The vendor set it up this way in order to be able to CUSTOMIZE. Giood base idea, but poorly implemented and inconsistent across the design.......

Hi !

I would like to thank you very much for your answers !

Something about my business requirements, medium size database ( 5 - 10 million record max) lot of different table, lots of joins > Hannah's "Super Associative" word ? building cubes at night could be enough.

Thanks again.
  What are your business requirements?
