IOTs can complicate your life (try looking for the object name, I freaked when I didn't see the table name)...

BUT.. I have a table with 2 columns -- the first is 12 characters and the primary key. The second is one character -- used or unused. Made no sense to me to create a table and an index when I would ALWAYS be accessing both columns...... and I got to play with an IOT as well :)
