The error happens when querying v$session_longops.



Sys places garbage into various v$session_longops columns.
The garbage _could_ be caused by passing parameters in the
wrong order to the package which inserts rows into v$session_longops.



I opened up a TAR with Oracle Support on 6 September, 2000.
Oracle Support closed the TAR, saying that perhaps this was not
"garbage".  Perhaps the developers placed debug statements into
the Oracle code.



There is less garbage in v$session_longops in Oracle 8.1.7.



V$session_longops gets cleared when you start up Oracle.  This is why
shutting down and starting up the database _seems_ to make things
better.



You can verify my statements by doing


select * from v$session_longops.
