There is absolutely no reason for going raw (not the WWF way) when there are filesystems which can help you do the same thing (VxFS,JFS,XFS) by using

so called quick IO in which direct data transfer between the user buffers and
the file takes place (no buffer cache involvement). The only situation in which
you must go raw is OPS.

Jack, I don't think it's a bad thing.

The time constraints placed on a DBA may make it impossible to implement a database in raw.
