Cherie,

I did a search in Metalink and came up with a forum talking about the exact same error that you got in your udump directory.

Here is the direct quote from Oracle support:

"In Oracle7 there is a "hardcoded" limit on I/O requests at 200. The message is a warning, not an error, and no I/O's  are lost. While the maximum number of async I/O requests is outstanding, further requests are handled
synchronously. The impact on performance is unknown, but since the majority of requests will still be done
asynchronously, it is expected to be minimal. Tuning I/O (striping, spreading across more devices) may help to  releave the bottleneck. "

Subject: Again - TRACE - What does Out of async requests mean?

Since I didn't get a response the first time, I'm submitting it one more time in the hopes that someone might get a fresh look at it:

I have the following trace files in my udump directory. They all say the same thing. The database is 7.3.4 on UNIX Sun Solaris 2.6.

This database supports a web logic application.

Can anyone explain to me in layman's terms what the error 'Out of async requests' means:

Thanks,

Cherie
