URGENT: (JDBC) VARCHAR2 max length

We are calling a PL/SQL program unit and one of the IN parameter is VARCHAR2
On passing chracters near about 6000 it gives error, But i suppose the max length
in Oracle 8i is near about 32K

We are calling function using the JDBC. Is this the restriction of JDBC? If yes,
then from where we can get the doc?
