I have worked as a DBA with both..
Here are some differences..

SQL server:

-  supports multiple databases within one instance
- 'cold' backups can be done online (!!)
- is quite stable in production mode upto 10GB in my experience, I have
supported some live trading databases for large banks in downtown Chicago..

I work as an independant consultant, so if you need to do some analysis/ installations/etc. etc. feel free to email me back.
