I completely agree with the separation of powers bit. <rant> Unfortunately for me, I've had to be both, and the production part has suffered. Now I'm finally trying to hire a production DBA, and it's hard! I can't seem to find anyone qualified, and I'm looking for a Jr. to mid-level with some experience. Everyone is either just out of school or has years of experience and is too expensive. </rant>

Sorry about that. Also, I must say that a design DBA or database architect is vital to development. Too many places, the developers are left to create their own tables, and the poor production DBA's are left to sort out the mess afterwards. A good design is worth it's weight in gold.

Just my 2 cents.
Diana

yes, and some would also separate it along the lines of database architect (as in development dba) if you are doing a lot of data modelling with the devlopment team, and DBA (as in production dba). Received on Mon Nov 27 2000 - 13:32:29 CST
