Penny,
The ORA error (compatable parameter) needs to be set in your init.ora = file to infor Oracle that the data has to be made compatable with 8.1. It = is explained in the release notes that you have to download for the = version of software you are installing.

Robert,
In my limited experience, it is better to install the new version then=20 import the database. When we upgraded from 7.3.4 to 8.1.5 and then=20 migrated the data, we got error ORA 00406(compatable parameter needs to=20 be 8.1.0.0.0 or greater). The choices to resolve this problem was to=20 rebuild each table or try the install/import method. The install/import=20=

method worked much better!!!! =20

Also check the install guide for 8.1.6, I don't know what the version=20 requirement are but I had problems installing 8.1.5 on Solaris 2.6. =20 After we upgraded to Solaris 2.7 the problems were gone.

Hope this is helpful Received on Wed Nov 22 2000 - 06:44:34 CST
