There are a number of ranches here in Montana and in Colorado that keep "wild" game penned up for wealthy "sportsmen" to shoot without having to actually hunt. A referendum was put on the ballot this election to make this sort of thing illegal, as it is in Wyoming. It passed.
The fact that some of the captive elk had chronic wasting disease was used as an argument to make game farms illegal.

Mad cow disease? (same virus). It's a problem on game farms here (outlawed as of the election) but not in the wild.
