Dear List,

Our system had a transient hardware disk I/O error and some inodes had been marked bad by VXFS and consequently I lost all my controls files and a number of other files.

I restored the control file via RMAN and then try to open the database - only to find that system01.dbf is also missing. So I tried a restore of the same file via RMAN.

RMAN started and now stuck on "starting partial resync of recovery catolog". I have waited for an hour now and still nothing appears to be happening.

I'll appreciate any help or suggestion as to what to do or check next.

We are running:
Solaris 7, Oracle 8.0.6 and Veritas file system 3.3.2
