Swapna,
please refer to Oracle 8 utilities manual part 1. "To use Direct path export specify the DIRECT=Y parameter on the command line or parameter file.
It indicates that it is a DIRECT path export (not CONVENTIONAL). Direct path export extracts data much faster than conventional path export. Direct path export achieves this performance gain by reading data directly, bypassing the SQL command processing layer and saves on data copies whenever possible."
