Everything is fine, except for the occasional listener hang. From gleaning Metalink, it looks like Oracle didn't quite make their goal of making the listener asynchronous. Cherie, We are on the verge of implementing a production Reservations system (mission-critical) on Oracle 8.1.6 running on Sun Solaris 2.6. Our database initially will be small so we are not using partitions. We have just completed most of our technical and functional testing and everything looks good. Our production database will be < 5GB in size to start though we ran a larger amount of data successfully for a volume testing phase. We are using multi-master replication and also are using the Oracle Enterprise Manager software installed on a Solaris host with the client being run from our desktops which are Windows NT 4 workstations. We will be using OEM for event management, performance monitoring and for some replication management features. These things are for the most part, set and tested and are working well. All of this is software delivered with Oracle 8.1.6. There are a couple of configuration issues you need to be aware of which do have work-arounds. They are as follows: 1. dbstart routine as delivered contains a bug which prevents the automatic startup from working (see Metalink for the fix). 2. There are two views in the catalog.sql script which do not create properly and should be rerun. They are v_$dlm_traffic_controller and gv_$dlm_traffic_controller. 3. Check for invalid packages which may need to be re-compiled. 4. Make sure that your oratab is set-up correctly. I seem to recall having a problem with a missing end colon preventing automatic startup from working. In April 2000 we ordered and installed Oracle 8.1.5. We got the cart before the horse and did the install before getting the os patches applied. We attempted to de-install the Oracle software and the 8.1.5 software would not de-install using that installer. That was the extent of our use of 8.1.5. When we called Oracle support, they logged the bug and asked us if we would use 8.1.6 instead. We are not looking at 8.1.7 at this time because we are too close to implementation.
