Re: What is your experience with 8.1.6?

I asked about Oracle 8.1.7 on Sunday, got 3 replies, two of which told me that Oracle 8.1.7 was available for download.

I have some reporting databases at 8.1.6.0. Lots of bugs which require they be run in RULE with some events set in the initialization file. Then there's the trash that shows up in v$session_longops for sys entries. Oracle Support says the trash is not a bug, perhaps development wanted that stuff there for debug purposes.

Have installed 8.1.7 on two of the reporting databases. Was very unhappy that minimal install still installs and starts up Apache. Except for OEM 2.1 unable to discover intelligent agents which have found and placed apache in the services.ora file, I have no complaints about 8.1.7 so far.

Not only are the bugs for whch Oracle gave me a number fixed in 8.1.7, but bugs for which I did not get a number appear fixed in 8.1.7. Further, a lot less crap in v$session_longops.

I'm enthused enough to be planning the upgrade of yet another reporting database to 8.1.7 this weekend.
